Riamarawa Toutou, Certificate IV KIT Accounting student.

With training currently on hold due to the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic in Kiribati, one of KIT’s returning students is taking this opportunity to share his student journey.

Riamarawa Toutou is a KIT Accounting student. Last year, he was studying a Certificate III in Accounting and this year he’ll be continuing his Certificate IV in Accounting. Riamawara was inspired to study accounting after growing up admiring business workers which he dreamed of becoming in the future. He chose to study at KIT to gain a qualification that could lead him to his dream job. He wishes to become a Financial Clerk, helping customers and processing monetary transactions.

But study isn’t always easy and Riamawara acknowledges that there have been challenges to overcome during his training. These challenges include learning new technologies and keeping up with the assignments. “Drawing up a schedule aside from school offers the most vital opportunity to perform well. Being a KIT student you will need to be able to manage your time effectively as that is the only way for you to accomplish your target,” says Riamawara. He explains that seeking assistance from staff and other students is the best way to master a skill and learn to do it by yourself.

When asked what one of the key lessons he has learned so far is, Riamawara replied;

“I found out that [for me] the most important unit is Customer Service and I take studying it very seriously, for it is beneficial for me and my career. I am looking forward to a new unit to learn this year. I have no doubt that it will be a productive and interesting one.”
